Iron Nest How to Play: 6-Step First Shot Loop
Iron Nest is a single-player, first-person dieselpunk heavy-artillery simulator: you sit inside a roughly 5000-ton turret and destroy targets by manual calculation, not by aiming a crosshair.
Iron Nest is a single-player, first-person dieselpunk heavy-artillery simulator: you sit inside a roughly 5000-ton turret and destroy targets by manual calculation, not by aiming a crosshair.
To play, you receive mission coordinates, open your map table, and convert those coordinates into a target bearing (direction) and range (distance) from your current turret position.
Next you lay the gun: rotate the turret to the bearing, raise the barrel to the elevation that matches your range and chosen powder charge using the in-game firing tables.
Then you select a shell from the supply truck using requisition credits, load it, and fire — the round lands exactly where your bearing, charge, and elevation point because there is no spread.
After the shot, observe the impact, record the result, and adjust only what changed before the next shot; this read-locate-calculate-prepare-fire-confirm loop is the whole game.
The campaign has 15 missions from Calibration Fire to White Shells, and the final mission's shell choice decides one of four endings (PRPG, chemical, Atomic, or The Road).
Start with the Calibration Fire tutorial, keep a written firing record, and use the Ballistic and Counter-Battery calculators on this site to plan shots before you sit at the dials.
Iron Nest has no co-op or multiplayer (developer-confirmed), so every session is one operator, one turret, and a stack of maps to solve.
This page separates documented information from assumptions so players can use it as a reference without treating unverified claims as fact. Check the in-game interface and official announcements when a mechanic, availability detail, or value may have changed after the source was collected.
