Triangulation in Iron Nest is how you fix a hidden target — usually an enemy counter-battery gun line — from two or more observed bearings rather than a direct range.

Each observer or scout plane reports a bearing (azimuth) toward the muzzle flash or sound; drawing those bearing lines from your known position, their intersection is the enemy gun.

One bearing is only a line, not a point, so a single flash is a hypothesis; two intersecting bearings give a target you can lay your own shells onto with confidence.

The Counter-Battery Calculator on this site automates the intersection: enter both observer bearings and your position, and it returns the enemy battery coordinates to feed your gun solution.

Because there is no shell spread, the triangulated point is exactly where your shell lands, so the only error left is in the bearings you recorded.

Use triangulation whenever the mission hides the battery (Counter-Battery, Phantom Battery) and you must answer fire without a clear ranging shot.
